Work Online From Home – Web Designer
SO YOU WANT TO BE A WEB DESIGNER
As the unemployment rate increases, online businesses increase. As online businesses increase, the demand for web designers increase. See the profitable correlation? This is a job that is pretty much in-style and will be needed for years to come. Of course you have to have a desire to create, learn a new skill/language, and be a problem solver. A distinguished web designer has the potential of helping the client live out their dreams through creating a marketable design. But it is all up to you and how you utilize your new skill.
Specialization / Skills Needed
The National Association of Schools of Art and Design accredits about 250 schools with programs in art and design. Typically—web designers need a bachelor’s degree in order to get hired by a company. But since you are on this site—I’m assuming you’re interested in doing work online from home, which doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree, but it does require some basic training as well as continued education throughout your career as technology is ever growing and advancing. Of course the amount of training required really depends on your chosen specialization. Just looking at some of the courses offered at our local community college, I see that you can plan on getting a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design. If you plan on mainly specializing in certain areas, I see certificates (18 credit hours each) available in different aspects of design, such as, Illustration, Typography, and Interactive. Of course classes, programs, and credit hours vary from college to college.
Your Target Market
· Any business that is looking to market online
· People who would like to blog or provide content/info online
· Non-profit organizations
· Awareness/Activist groups
· Publishers/Advertisers
Now you know where the money is—get started learning to help build people’s dreams. You will be the one to establish the feel of the site, the image of the site, and the navigation of the site. Good luck on this exciting profession!
